Are you energetic, positive and patient; an out of the box thinker, with a good old Kiwi Number 8 wire mentality, knowledge of and respect for Te Ao Māori?
Can you whip up a shelter at a moment’s notice? And do you know your bowline from your bow drill? If this sounds like you then you could be who we’re looking for!
Everyone Out is on the hunt for someone who is ready to put on their wet weather gear and gumboots to support our tamariki (5 - 12 years) as they learn through play. You will need to be able to problem solve and wonder alongside ngā tamariki, will be great at observing learning and have the ability to support and extend ngā tamariki. You will have a sound knowledge of the primary curriculum Core Competencies and child development. You will understand the benefits and importance of healthy risk in play.
As a kaiako at Everyone Out you will have:
Experience working with tamariki in an outdoor setting
A qualification in education/teaching or relevant field is desirable but not essential
A passion for the environment and knowledge of NZ bush and its inhabitants
The ability to engage with tamariki and ensure their safety
Excellent communication skills (with whānau, colleagues and programme manager)
Have a commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, understand tikanga maori and have basic knowledge of te reo
Current Comprehensive First Aid Certificate or willing to get one
Position - Two approximately 7 hours long days (14 hours in total) throughout our 8 week school terms:
Thursday (8.45am - 3.45pm) Crofton Downs
Friday (8.30am-3.30pm) Island Bay
Approx. 4 hours additional work per term allowed for meetings.
